Coat of arms similar to the modern coat of arms of Castile and León at the ruin of the Monastery of Santa María la Real de Obona along the Camino Primitivo. After visiting, King Alfonso IX designated the monastery as a place of mandatory passage for pilgrims in the 12th century. This less-traveled route of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage runs southwest from the Asturian capital of Oviedo, eventually joining the Camino Frances and ending in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia.
